  2. Hi, Many thanks for your growing dome information. Please can I come visit you in your
sales centre? I’ll be buying at least one from you but I need to see your growing domes first hand. Thanks, Jane

Can I pick up one from you in my Toyota Tacome 4×4 pu truck? I live in Bowen Island near West Vancouver BC Canada. I am a registered farm and I am hoping to provide the community with a healthy alternative to growing fresh fruits and vegetables.

I’m aiming to set up a passive solar aquaponic system, within a 16′ radius space… Am I crazy? Would the standard double wall option insulate during harsh winters in Kansas City? Or, would I need the triple?

  6. Connie says:

I would like some information on the greenhouses. do you ahve a brouchure, or can you email me some specs and prices?

  7. David Deeds says:

I’m planning on building a few connected domes and find your growing 51′ dome of interest. if you have videos that you could provide it would be very helpful, the more the better.

Didn’t find delivery estimate for your grow dome or did I over look it?

Is there anyone on the east coast with a growing dome now, if so, would it be possible to make contact and visit?

I’m about a year away from placing a order, but this provides time for further research and with your help, it will or could be a success.

Thanks for such a great web site,

    David Deeds

I like the updated web site and find it easy to navigate. I have an interest in your domes and have contacted you to ask about creating a blog or a place where those who have a dome can chat and connect. As I am also interested in seeing a dome. I live in Kentucky but Ohio, IN.,Ill, Mo., and Tenn are doable to drive to. Looking forward to hear from someone in or close to those states. thank you…bonnie anton PS a membership list on line would be great!

    Hello Bonnie,

Thank you so much for your interest and suggestions. We are so glad you like the new format we have created. Our goal is for people to use this format to talk to each other. One of the reasons we developed this forum was for current owners to talk to each other as well as prospective owners contemplating a purchase. We have many domes across the Midwest. It is a bit difficult to point you in a specific direction since most of our dome owners like to keep their privacy. For 20 years we have tried to connect potential customers with current owners and it became so very complicated. But I am sure Kesy, our expert customer service person, can help you with any questions you may have. She may even know someone near you with a dome but I just did not want to make promise I could not keep! Also, I would encourage you to post the question on our blog or facebook page so that are current owners can reply!
Thank you again for your feed back! ~ Danyelle, Growing Spaces

I am wondering if these domes will work in places that don’t have extremely cold weather and rather hot summers. I live in Paradise, CA and the summers can get into the 90′s and the winters are very rainy (winter can last into late May or even June) but the temps usually don’t go much below freezing for short amounts of time. I am wondering if the temp inside can be regulated enough to work during the summer, or if it could be put under trees to help cool it in the summer. The trees lose their leaves in the fall, so the dome would have more sun on it during the fall and winter.

    Thanks
    zelda

Interested in you E-book. We are enjoying our Dome and would love any information on how to grow things bigger and better.

  14. dleentjes says:

    Hello Zelda!

The Growing Dome would work absolutely great in your area! You have the perfect conditions for growing, especially in the winter months. We have 26 Growing Domes in California right now. You have the right idea about planning your site around trees for the shade in the summer. You can also position shading plants around the south side of the outside of your dome like hollyhocks for example. In addition to that you can use a shade cloth, install extra vents and fans, put in a screen door, plant warm weather plants in the summer, or install a portable misting system. Remember that the more you have growing in the dome the cooler it will be! As far as the winter is concerned, it is 30 degrees warmer inside the dome than outside so it sounds like your temperatures will be fine! Our temperatures can go to 30 below here but we have the sunshine to keep it going without supplemental heat! I will have someone from our customer service department contact you and answer specific questions you may have. Thank you for contacting us and we look forward to working with you!

I live 4000 feet in the San Jacinto mountians of Southern California where the summers are hot – 110 degrees max and we get down to 13 degrees in winter with a little snow but not too bad. The worst part is that we get very high winds, up to 100 miles per hour at times. What can you tell me about the ability of your domes to withstand high winds? Of course we have very arid climate as we are in the high desert. Would your dome work well for my area? Our hotest time of year only lasts several months, but it is very difficult to grow outside because of rodents and animals, so how secure are they in that regard?

  16. admin says:

Many people are concerned that the Growing Dome will be able to handle high winds. Basically the shape is such that the winds flow effortlessly around the Growing Dome. They have been able to withstand recorded winds of 150 miles per hour in Browning, Montana, Alaska, and the front range of the Colorado Rockies. The opening windows are certainly more vulnerable to wind then the rest of the structure, but we have an upgrade to stronger vent openers that can handle the higher winds. The low temperatures and your elevation are actually much milder than the Growing Domes have been designed for, so you should be fine with the standard polycarbonate glazing. Depending on the size of the Growing Dome you’re interested in we’d recommend a couple different upgrades/options to help cool the Growing Dome in the heat of the summer. The Growing Domes are very secure in terms of rodents and other animals as long as you line the floor and vents with wire mesh. We can help you pick the best size for that. So, the short answer is “Yes!” the dome would work very well for your area.

  18. Julianne says:

    Hello!
I am beyond excited to find your company. I have been fascinated by geodesic structures for many many years, and the growing dome may be a perfect marriage between that fascination and my current readiness for a greenhouse here at Gracewoods. I am concerned about the high heat and humidity here in GA. I live in NE Georgia, so it’s not as hot as in the south, but I would definitely need a growing space that could be used year-round. Temps are often in the 90′s in the long summer here, with winter temps in the 30′s-40′s, mostly – a few days in the teens or single digits. Are there any growing domes in Georgia (or western SC or southwestern NC – or eastern TN – whose owners might be open to contact and perhaps a visit? Also, can the vents be screened? It occurred to me that introducing butterflies could be a wonderful aspect of the greenhouse – a butterfly-house/herb & veggie growing dome!
I’d also be interested in connecting with anyone in the SE United States who’s had a dome for a number of years, to learn more about longevity and any maintenance challenges. Hoping to hear from you soon. The direction I choose for a greenhouse is a decision I’ll be making quite soon. Thank you!!

  19. admin says:

Hi Julianne, There are a number of things you can do to make the summers more pleasant in the Growing Dome in a hot and humid climate. The temperatures you’re speaking of are not too harsh. A shade cloth along with LOTS of plants growing tall both inside and outside to create shade and natural evaporative cooling will help immensely. You’ll likely have to play more with the humidity to get the climate how you’d like it inside. First of all, we highly recommend using a moisture meter (which you get with your Growing Dome Kit) to test the soil. Overwatering is one of the primary culprits of too much condensation/humidity in the domes. Depending on the size of Growing Dome you’d like, you may consider an additional fan or vent or installing your own fan post installation. Some folks have installed their own greenhouse ceiling fan to boost the chimney effect of the greenhouse ventilation. Depending on the temperatures and the level of humidity, a misting system may also be helpful. We can talk more on the phone, but in the meantime… yes, you can screen the vents although this can reduce ventilation and, thus, cooling. We don’t have screens on the vents and we have dragonflies and bees coming in from the outside to pollinate the plants – Pretty cool! I’m in the process of contacting some owners near you to see if they’d be up for having a visitor and I will keep you posted over email. I’ll be in touch soon – Stacey Couch (Growing Spaces Staff)

  20. Julianne says:

    Thank you Stacey!
You may have gotten my follow-up email after my initial one. As I read your response, my draw to the geodesic greenhouse rises again…..maybe there is a way to make it work here – part of what’s key for me is to incorporate it into the landscape here (which is very woodsy-low-key-natural) and not have it “stand out” in anything other than a beautiful way. I do hope the owners near me will be willing to have me come visit – that would be crucial. I could drive a few hours if necessary.
I’m also curious about the possibility of growing fish for food in the tank(s) – using an “aquaponics” filtering system. Is anyone you know of doing this in one of your domes?
Thank you for your swift reply – and for your enthusiasm!
    Namaste,
    Julianne

  21. admin says:

Julianne – So everyone can see… I’ve got a couple resources I’ve found online for aquaponics. We haven’t worked directly with either, but I found their videos informative:

  24. Michael Szafron says:

I live in Saskatoon, SK, Canada and was interested in your Growing Dome. How well would it work in my climate?

  25. admin says:

Hi Michael, We have a number of Growing Domes as far north as Alaska and many throughout Canada. All reports are that they do very well in the cold, northern climates. If you go with Premium glazing you can expect your Growing Dome to stay 30 degrees F warmer than the outside temperature. We have a number of suggestions on how to heat/install the Growing Dome so that you can grow through the really cold times of year. Also, since the Growing Domes are a geodesic shape they have much less heat loss than a standard box greenhouse so they cost less to heat. If you install it as is, you can expect a significant lengthening of your current growing season. We’d be glad to answer any other questions you have and talk further. Feel free to email me at stacey@growingspaces.com or call at 800-753-9333. All the best, Stacey, Growing Spaces Staff
