These Girls ARE Forever Green!
Girl Scouts team up with Growing Spaces & Rio Del Sol Farm to build 12′ Growing Dome®
On May 7th and 8th, a group of local Girl Scouts proudly assembled a 12′ diameter Growing Dome® from Growing Spaces, in front of Colorado Dream Homes and Rio Del Sol Farm on Hwy 160!
The entire outer-structure of the 12′ Growing Dome® was assembled in just three hours by this amazing group of young girls. The girls were incredible – and so handy too!
Dedicated parents & siblings were also on hand to assist.
This summer, the girls will be learning a lot about gardening!
Growing Spaces & Rio Del Sol Farm have joined together to educate the girls on natural growing, seed starting, the importance of sprouts, natural pest control, weeding, along with caring for & harvesting vegetables and many other aspects of natural growing.
Jessica Bilazzo of Growing Spaces provided the girls with many types of seeds to plant. After the build was complete the girls planted peppers, tomatoes, corn, peas, and some mint to be transplanted into the Dome once they become more established plants.
The girls will transplant the seedlings to the raised beds of the Growing Dome in June.
Local troops will visit Rio Del Sol Farm in Pagosa Springs!
The girls will receive a tour of Rio Del Sol Farm, located in the Lower Blanco Basin of Pagosa Springs, from owner Debra Brown.
During the tour, the scouts will assist with weeding, and learn about controlling pests and bugs with natural methods.
The girls will also enjoy picking fabulous, naturally-grown apples right out of the orchard!
Rio Del Sol Farm has been in operation since the 1990′s and is located in Pagosa Springs, Colorado along the Rio Blanco River.
Girl Scouts cut ribbon at Grand Opening!
On May 15th, Rio Del Sol Farm hosted the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting of their new Produce & Flower Cart located right on Highway 160, you can’t miss the 12′ Dome! The produce cart & canopy stand directly next to the Growing Dome® assembled by our local Girl Scouts.
Debra Brown passed out Wee Sprout Kits to each of the girls in attendance. The scouts carefully tended their sprouts for five days. On the fifth day the girls sat down together to eat the salads produced from their sprout kits. What a treat!
Happy moms received a nod of approval to use sprouts in the future; the girls were amazed at how great sprouts taste. Perhaps they can continue to grow their own!
